Fire Destroys Chabad House in Staten Island

Staten Island, NY

March 20, 2007

No one was hurt in a fire that broke out in the New Springville home of Chabad’s Rabbi Nachman and Chaya Segal early Saturday morning. The rabbi and his wife pulled their four children to safety, and also managed to evacuate the two Torah scrolls from the premises which served as the Chabad Center for local Israelis.

The Segals, who say most of their belongings were lost in the fire, are staying with family. Their intention now is to expedite renovations on a new facility that Chabad recently purchased.

Contributions to the Chabad Israeli Center may be sent to Chabad-Lubavitch of Staten Island, 289 Harold Street, Staten Island, NY 10314.
