Putin to Award Chabad Rabbi For Bravery

Moscow, Russia,

December 19, 2007

President Vladimir Putin will soon confer a state award on Chabad Rabbi Yitzhak Kogan and son Yosef.

They will receive the Badge of Honor in recognition of the bravery they displayed last year when they wrestled 20 year old Alexander Koptsev to the ground and disarmed him, after he stabbed and seriously wounded 9 worshipers in the Bolshaya Bronnaya Synagogue in central Moscow.

Koptsev was sentenced to 16 years of high-security imprisonment on charges of attempted murder and incitement of ethnic hatred, reported the FJC.
